I tried to do a search on the forum but I got a lot of hits so I'm sorry if this is a repeated question.

I would like to put some shimmer dust into my buttercream to make it shimmer - does this work? I'm tinting it pink and want it to shimmer a bit so I can make little pearls on my cake. If not then I can just sprinkle it on afterwards. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've never tried actually putting it into the icing..... I don't think it would work........ I just use it by dusting it on the cake or flowers with a large blush brush .......

I actually just tried to knead shimmer dust into my fondant an overall effect, but it didn't work. Then I just coated the fondant with it after it was shaped and that was better. HTH

I used a dry brush to brush luster dust on crusted buttercream. It worked beautifully. I dusted the sides and the roses of the Pink Rose Birthday cake in my pics with pearl luster dust. Don't know if you can see it.

Adding the dust to the icing has minimal effect, that I've experienced. It does work much better when you apply it afterward.

I haven't tried it, but I think it would clump. Can you try it with 1/2 cup of BC?
Another poster here filled a small spray bottle with either vodka or lemon extract, added some dust, and sprayed the cake. Maybe you can experiment with this, too.
