Wondering if you charge an extra amount for handmade fondant pearls for your wedding cakes? I make my own & it wasn't a problem up til now. It seems like every cake ordered wants them. So now it's very time consuming to make them. Your thoughts? Helen

I haven't had this come up yet, but I definitely would. Those little suckers take a lot of time. I can make about 100 in 30 minutes, so I would charge around $10/100.

I had an order for quilted cake with pink pearls at corners of quilting. I was going to make them until I saw that the pre-made ones were 5.25 for a bottle. The luster dust alone would be close to 4.00. It is certainly not worth my time to make them when they are so inexpensive. If they need pearl string borders, I like the fondant bead makers.

Let the bride know there is an extra charge and maybe she'll think about how much she really wants them. I know it's a simple, repetitive task, but it takes a lot of time--you should be compensated.
