I am wondering how you make the icing so that when it is put on cupcakes it is white, but the edges are tinted with another color. I also see it alot on roses....any help??

Put a stripe of your desired color in the bag before you fill it with your icing. Then when you pipe you will get the two-toned effect.

There is a way to do it with frosting. You can stripe your piping bag before you put your icing in it. Take your pastry bag and what ever color you want to put, use a paint brush and stripe the inside of the bag, I've done it with just two stripes, then fill your bag with icing. When you pipe it out, you should see the different color. I hope this makes sense and hopefully it was what you were talking about.

Instead of using the color pastes you can also put a strip of colored icing in the bag to get the same, though softer affect.

I think I like Texassugar tip (I will have to try that sometime) I did the stripe in the bag once, and to be honest the look was less than desirable for me. I think a softer look would look better.

Texassugar has a good idea. You can do this with even 3 different colors, just put 1 color frosting on 1 side and the other color on the other side of the bag so you get the two-toned effect and when you do this you get to color your icing the exact color you want. With the stripes in the bag the colors come out really bright.
