Anyone ever try to do a 1/2 one flavor 1/2 the other sheet cake and THEN cover w/ 1/2 one flavor buttercream and 1/2 another flavor buttercream? I'm doing a 7 UP cake & a root beer cake and I'm not sure vanilla-buttercream icing will be so great on the 7UP cake.... I'd like to possibly try a light lemon flavor (noto too much so the color change won't be noticable across the cakes. I just didn't know if this is possible... truly I don't know how to even do the top frosting for two sheetcakes together.... (haven't done sheetcakes before!). Any ideas & tips are appreciated as always!!

im curious about this too. i have no idea how to get rootbear and 7up flavor cake. i do know you can do 1/2 and 1/2 in a cake pan. i've done 1/2 white 1/2 chocolate. try to get something and put it in the middle and pour on both sides, i always have someone help me w/this part. i have a mini cutting board that i use to divide in the middle.

Thanks Falenn, I do have recipes for the root beer & 7 up cake and I was going to do 1/2 sheet cake of each flavor to make one whole sheet cake. My problem is just the frosting... I didn't know if I should cover both cakes in vanilla buttercream.... or if I could try and do half vanilla on the root beer side and half lemon on the 7up side.... I'm not sure how to make them meet in the middle and look good.

I have made several half & half cakes. You just pour the cake batter in at the same time toward the middle of the pan. They will meet in the middle and then spread back. As far as putting 2 different kinds of icing, I would just spread it on and let it meet in the middle also. They might mix a little, though.

What about a frozen buttercream transfer? Of sorts? It doesn't have to be very bit... Make each flavor icing about 2-3" wide and make a nice line between them (you could do a BCT the size of the top of the cake) Then transfer to cake and finish frosting the rest of top if you need too. Just make sure to allow time for the FBCT to thaw so you can smooth your fresh and FBCT together....

Hope this makes sense.... it does in my head!

When I worked in a bakery, sometimes I would get people who wanted say half fudge icing and half whiteBC icing. I just put it on and did not worry too much about the center where they met. I then put the border right across the top and sides with both kinds of icing. If you wanted it to look more pretty, maybe you could put the decorations in the center. That way, not so much of the border shows.....HTH. PM me if that was not clear, ok.......Donna

I just made what is probably about a half sheet size cake for my dad's birthday. I made 2 9X13 cakes, each in a different flavor, sat them long side to long side on a cake board and iced. I iced mine in the same type of frosting, but I can't imagine you'd have too much trouble using 2 different flavors. Getting the center even and smooth without getting icing on the opposite side of the cake might be a little difficult, but maybe not too bad if you smooth from top to bottom.
