Has anyone ever tried adding regular Wilton coloring to Candy Melts? I know they sell the "candy colors", but what would happen if I use the coloring I use for my frostings? Would it completely ruin my candy? I was thinkng of using the Candy Melts to make some sort of plaque to put on top of my cake.

I tried this, tried to make white candy melts a tiffany blue, with the wilton colors. The color doesn't mix in, it just stays in little pieces.

I believe the Lorainne (sp) colors are supposed to be what you use.

If you use regular coloring in melts it wil seize up on you. It has to do with being water based versus not .. or something like that...I think - I cant remember exactly - but speaking from experience icon_eek.gif ... stick with candy colors thumbs_up.gif

I've used the regular wilton coloring in my candy melts...a little like for pastels doesn't cause any problems but if you need to use a lot, you'll need to add some vegetable oil to them.

When coloring or flavoring candy melts you want to use oil based colors/flavors.

Some have been able to use regular colors for coloring a small amount, but others haven't. And why trying to color a large amount it probably will sieze (harden) on you.

To save you time, money and frustration, go ahead and buy the candy colors. Or better yet, the precolored candy melts and save time coloring at all. icon_smile.gif
