I am making a girl scout bridging ceremony cake for tomorrow, it will consist of a 2 layer 8" cake and a 2 layer 9" cake they will be side by side and have a bridge connecting the 2 together. I have just the standard wilton cardboard sheet cake thigns but they can bend ifonly using 1 .... do you thinkthatif I double them it would be fine or will I need to get a wooden board?

You could use foamcore! It's on sale at Micheal's right now. I recently used the 1/2 in thick board for a 6/9/12 wedding cake and it worked beautifully!

I too also use foam core, and I cover it with the pretty paper/foil table cloths that you can get at the Factory Card Outlet or whatever type of party store you might have.
Good Luck

I always use the foam core boards too. I buy a ton when Hobby Lobby puts them half off.

if you are trying to avoid going shopping, then yes, a doubled up board will work. just glue it together as early as you can, and cover it up with cake foil if you've got it.

I've heard alot of you all talk about using the foam boards. Where in Hobby Lobby do you look for them? What do the usually cost? Do you make sure you get them back or are they like the card board ones that you just let be thrown away??

Thanks

The foam core board in Hobby Lobby is with the art supplies and poster board usually. I get the 1/2 sheets since they are thicker and I think they are $3.99 a sheet. They have it 50% off a lot though so I always wait and buy all they have then and stock up. I love it, it is very sturdy but still lightweight.

To keep from having to go shopping I just doubled up the cardboard ones and taped them together then covered with a plasticwhite tablecloth, it worked great and was sturdy .... I am going to look for the foam ones next time I am at hobby lobby though.
