This probably seems like a stupid question, but here goes. I am making a cake for a friend. She has to transport it 1.5 hours. I have a box and round (cardboard) to put it on and in. The round is not coated so I do not want to ice the cake directly on it or it'll look greasy. So, if I cover the round with foil or something, will the cake still sit on it firmly for the ride or will it maybe slide? I hope I don't sound like a complete idiot. I am new to this and want all cakes that I "send out into the world" to look great, taste great, and even travel great! Thanks in advance for any comments!
Hi,
Just wrap your cardboard cake circle with freezer paper. Or perhaps the fancy foil to make it look prettier. Put a big dab of frosting on the cake board to "glue" it in place then set your cake on top to decorate. That should prevent it from sliding off the board. I never have a problem with cakes coming off the boards. It's more of a problem that people drive too crazy, take turns too fast or slam on their brakes that causes problems with the cakes in travel.

I secure the cake to the cake board with icing and then I always use grip mats when I am transporing a cake. You can get them at Walmart or a dollar store. Put the matt under the cake in the box and another under the box in the car and your cake won't budget (provide there isn't any irratic driving taking place!)
my latest and greatest is putting 2 sided tape in my box and positioning my board on it so that it meets the board edges. I have a customer who has transported 6 cakes 4+ hours and it was worked like a charm
