I have two questions, please.

First, where can I get boxes for sculptured cakes? I can't seem to find them deep enough and would like lids.

Second, can anyone direct me to a thread (I have searched and cannot find) about how to pipe gilding frosting?

Thank you my friends!

I can't help you on the gilded frosting but as far as boxes go...the most depth you will find is 6 inches. I have to tape the sides of my boxes so they don't crush the top of the cake and then cover and tape with saran wrap. I have seen others say they use plastic storage containers (like you find at staples, target, etc.) turned upside down so the lid is on the bottom.

Here's a nice box website:

They also do custom sizes. icon_smile.gif

I use Banker's file boxes for my stacked cakes, up to 12". They are fantastic! Cheap, easy to find, very sturdy and handles/lid too:

Antonia, how do you get the cakes in/out of the box when it has such high sides?

I'm sure I would have my fingers all over the place in the cake, LOL.

What's the trick?

Thanks for bringing this up again! I have a cake to deliver this weekend a day early and they will be taking it to the party, was trying to figure out what to put it in so they didn't have to get my rubbermaid containers back to me =)

projectqueen, not sure about the banker's boxes - but you can always slit both corners (vertically) on one side of the box to create a large side opening to slide your cake into.

Then all you do is tape the sides up with package tape, put on the lid and you're good to go.

On site, just remove the tape, the side comes down and you slide your cake out.

JanH - That is a great idea! It can make any box user friendly for a cake.

I am also always looking for ways to package my oddly shaped cakes! The upside down plastic storage containers offer many options in sizes/heights.

Or put the cake in the lid of the box and put the base over the top. That way you just lift off the 'base' and slide the cake off the 'lid.'
