Will using the cake extneder in a box cake make it more dense? I am making a stacked cake using box cake. I don't want the box cake to be too moist to where it falls apart? I am using cake boards and dowels for support as well. Any suggestions?

I use cake mixes with a pudding mix and an extra egg added. Works just fine for stacked cakes. Dowels are what support your cakes anyway, not the cake itself.

Where are these extender and durable cake mix recipes? I've never heard of them and can't seem to find them.

I never could really find a recipe myself or if I did, it sounded like too much trouble lol I just saw on the forums where people added a box of pudding mix and an extra egg to every box of cake mix they used. Makes a very nice moist denser cake.

Thanks!! When I go to stack my cakes, I am using a 12 inch cake for the bottom, then a nine inch cake. How many dowels do you suggest I put in the bottom cake? I was thinking like 6??? I am going to try the pudding and extra egg. I might also try the Durable cake. What is the name of the recipe??

Can you use the durable cake for Chocolate cake too? I only see it for Yellow or White.

My biggest tip is just to take your time and think everything through. It sounds like you're going to use enough dowels.

Yes. I've done it with Chocolate Cake Mix and Chocolate Fudge pudding and it worked just fine. The Enhanced Cake Mix II recipe also suggests adding 3 heaping tbsp of cocoa powder, which I've also done. It takes great!
