I am making a little mermaid cake this weekend. I tried to make some seaweed and was using a 67 leaf tip. The edges came out frayed and seerated instead of pointed. Was I using the correct tip? Thanks tandjsmom for the great cake idea!

Are you looking for the tip that made the green seaweed on the cake in the picture?

Tip 352 will give you a very similar look without the messy tip. I can't get good results with tip 67 or 68 so I always use 352 with wonderful results. Hope that helps.

Sounds like you may need to open up the end of your tip some. Just put the pointy end of your flower nail in, and push a little. It will open it up some. If they are swuished closed, it will be jagged. I have to open up most of the leaf tips in my class, for the students.

My Spongebob under the sea cake had seaweed and I just piped it on with an open 12 tip.. worked fine... of course if you are going for the leafy look, go with 352

Also try adding a little piping gel to the icing before piping. It helps eliminate the jagged edges.
