Ok....I have a small cake shop and have been doing cakes for over 29 years. My daughter is getting married this weekend, so I have not taken any other orders this week.....geez, wonder why??? And making my daughter's wedding cake. I got a call from a customer who goes into this routine....a friend of a friend of a friend....told her about my cake shop and she knows she has waited till the last minute for a graduation cake for Friday. (this is Wed!) I explained to her that I am not taking orders because it's my daughter's wedding.....she goes from being nice to almost yelling....telling me that I needed to let so and so know that I was not taking orders then this week. Now what's she supposed to do??? I told her I have a business....and I don't call all my customer base to let them know I am not going to take orders or already booked, etc.....she says...."well, I wish I had known that when they told me about you." I told her....it wouldn't have mattered if she had called me a year ago....THE DATE WAS SET FOR MY DAUGHTER'S WEDDING....so sorry and I book up a week to 2 weeks in advance each week for orders. She said....what am I going to do now? I said....try Wal-Mart or one of the grocery store bakeries and she said....guess you have to do what you have to do and I will too! I said....good luck even getting a cake in time now with any of them....even most of those places want orders in advance. So she hung up on me.....LOL! Anyway....just wanted to vent some as sometimes we decorators have to deal with some different folks!

What is that saying? "Your lack of planning is not my emergency." What a psycho. Have a wonderful time at your daughter's wedding icon_smile.gif

Guess she learned the that she WASN'T the center of the universe. icon_smile.gif

There's no excuse for her rudeness when her predicament was caused by her own thoughtlessness and lack of planning.

Also, it seems to me, that oftentimes the "wronger" people are the louder they yell and the more they demand - as if this somehow makes them right.

Have a great time at your daughter's wedding. And please post photos at your earliest possible convenience. icon_biggrin.gif

It reminds me of a quote I heard from a lawyer, who was taught this in law school:

If the facts are on your side, pound the facts.
If the law is on your side, pound the law.
If neither is on your side, pound the table.

She was pounding on the table icon_wink.gif

I think you should just make your daughter reschedule her wedding. After all, it is a potential customer and she does have a graduation she knew about 12 years ago (or maybe she just found out he/she IS graduating!!!). You should have anticipated her needs, afterall. icon_biggrin.gif

Enjoy your big day!!! can't wait to see pictures!

Believe me....in 29 years of doing this....I've heard allot.....just had a guy stop by the other day and picked up a cake for his daughter's birthday and he said.....What, you don't have just regular cakes made up already to buy? I said...no, these are made to order.....and he said, well, what if someone needed a cake to just eat??? I said....usually my cakes are for eating....and he gave me the funniest look and then started laughing. Thanks everyone for the break....and I'll make sure to post the pictures of her cake this next week.

Oh I love that saying!!! I have some friends that are just like that customer and they would be that rude.

You did the right thing, she doesn't sound like someone you want as a repeat customer!

Have a GREAT wedding day with your daughter and family!

And just who do you and your daughter think you are? This lady had 13 years if you count kindergarden to need this cake! Your daughter has only had this date for approx. a year! Are you not aware of ever person on the planets bakery needs? What kind of shop are you running, anyway?
OH MY GOD AT THIS WOMAN!!!!!! Isn't it great to be able to put what's most important to you first once in a while? This woman doesn't deserve a cake from you, as she wouldn't appreciate your work anyway it seems.
A HUGE congratulations for the upcoming wedding of your daughter and she is lucky to have you do her cake. Can't wait to see pics.

Ok...now the guilt has gotten to me....think I will call the lady back and appologise for being so rude in having a daughter 29 years ago....and being so thoughtless of not doing her daughter's graduation cake....after all....THAT'S SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT.....LOL
