I have an order for a baby shower cake. She wants a baby blue cake shaped like a hard hat on top of a sheet cake. How can I do the hard hat? I haven't done anything like this before (3d) and am very nervous. I told her I would do a practice one this week and see if its what she wants. The theme is "under construction" which she wants written on the front and "coming in 2007" on the back. She has figures to put on the sheet cake, but I think I will probably make a sleeping baby out of fondant or marzipan.
Any and all suggestions and help would be soooo greatly appreciated!!
You could probably use a ball shaped pan (like the Wilton Soccer Ball pan) and add the rim of the hat and any other pieces with fondant/gumpaste.
yep -- that's exactly what to do!
just google for images of hard hats for guide to the little details that make it a hardhat as opposed to any other kind of hat.
(hint -- for the ridges that are embossed in a hardhat -- first build them up w/ fondant "bars/logs" then cover whole thing w/ fondant to get the most realistic look)
------------
and that sheet cake allows for some fun too ---
it could be a blueprint of a baby under construction
or
a how to make a baby manual
or
illustration of the classic "snips and snail and puppy dog tails" idea turned into a "how to make a baby" concept.
