I just finished this cake and want to thank the person who posted the instructions for the shoe... you saved me on this one!! icon_biggrin.gif

Now, I am a specialized cake decorator here, as no one else does fondant. I charged $65 for the 2 tier creation. Is that too much? I don't want to price myself out of the market around here.... opinions?

I don't know what sizes, flavors, or filling of the cakes are so I don't know if your price is good.

I start at $2.50 a serving for a 2 layer cake with buttercream filling and fondnant with minimal decorations,

Guessing on the size of the layers but it looks like 8 and 10 inch, if I am right you really under charged in my opinion. Going by the cake charts you get 64 servings - you need to charge more than $1 a serving for that kind of detail - just my opinion. Beautiful cake by the way thumbs_up.gif

That's really awesome!!! I am notorious for WAY underpricing my own cakes, but I do not at all think $65 is a lot for that cake and all that work!! Especially if you are the only one in your area doing fondant work. You could probably even charge more. Great job on the cake!!!!! thumbs_up.gif

Thanks all for the input. My customer didn't even blink when I told her the price. I'm just afraid that I would price myself out of the market!! icon_biggrin.gif Around here, fondant is really new, and they are acustomed (sp) to paying $20 for a standard birthday cake with BC icing. Frankly, I put way to much time and effort into even a standard BC birthday cake. Not many people know about me yet either, just kinda going on word of mouth. I haven't advertised or anything this customer got my name from the local florist. I have to remember to bring them a Thank you cake or a couple of gift certificiates (sp).... they've sent a couple of Brides my way thumbs_up.gif

Oh BTW, they were 8 and 12 inch vanilla squares cut in half and stacked with BC filling, BC undercoat and of course fondant. Hind sight being 20/20 I probably should have charged more.... icon_sad.gif

I dont' do fondant, but I do understand all of the work that is involved in making these creations. I don't think anyone charges "too much" for fondant work. (The reason I don't do it is because I don't want to work that hard!) icon_lol.gif

My hats are off to ya, fondant ladies!! thumbs_up.gif

It is a rather large cake I would have charged more than $65 but my thing is if they don't pay me what I want for it I just won't do it, I don't do it for the money and I have 3 kids and they come first your cake is beautiful thoug very good job
