I have received my first Americolor item, the Super Red coloring. I am preparing for my 4th of July cookies.

Does the icing pick up more color over time like buttercream does?

I only needed a few drops and I have a serious red. I've only used Wilton colorings and I think I would still be elbow deep in toothpicks with their red.

So my question is, does royal icing deepen like the buttercream after an hour or so. Thanks icon_smile.gif

With Royal icing you don't need NEAR the amount you need for buttercream.

Myself, I've never had problems with the red in royal icing. With royal start with only one drop and them go from their. You'll be surprised.

Over time, I've never had a problem with the color itself changing-but other eliments do.....Keep your cookies out of the sun-even an hour will mess them up. My shamrock cookies were a deep green and they became pale green because of the sun. Some even got sun spot (lol) it wasn't pretty. FYI.

Thanks Manatee19, I was amazed at how little of the Americolor I needed to get a really great red.

I didn't know that about sunlight, will keep them out of it. thumbs_up.gif
