I'm making a wedding cake for a bride that wants either silk or real flowers, how do you attach them without getting a residue on the cake? The cake will be beautiful if i can get this detail ironed out! Thank you in advance for all your help icon_smile.gif

I've used silk flowers on buttercream and fondant cakes without getting anything on the cakes. I'm not sure if there's specific residue that you're referring too...but I haven't had any problems. I do wait until I get to the reception before putting the flowers on though, so that the buttercream doesn't give any petals grease stains or anything like that.

I've never been into the silk flower thing, but I've seen lots of them on here and they all look surprisingly lovely! There is no residue from fake ones, and real ones you'd pull out the yellow gooky stamens before putting on the cake and Wilton makes little picks that you insert the stems into before sticking them into the cake.

I use silk flowers quite often, and have never had any "residue". But, just like mendhigurl, I dont put them on the cake until after I have set the cake up at the reception site.

I've used silk flowes many times, they're wonderful. One thing I have done is use clear plastic straws if I'm worried about the "stem" touching the cake. My thing is how many times were the flowers touched before I bought them...plastic straws, cut to size, make me feel better, if nothing else.

Thank you all for your advice on the flowers! I think the bride now wants to use real flowers so the stamen and stem suggestions are a great help! This is my first time working with these flowers (duuhh) so I may have more questions.. Thank you!!
