I Need Help With A 40Th Anniversary Cake!

I have to do a cake for a couples 40th wedding anniversary. The colors are royal blue, robin egg blue, and white.
The cake itself is going to be a stacked round wedding type cake. Any ideas with the decorating? There are TONS of pictures on this site to go through so I would love someone to send me pics or ideas...in the meantime...I will keep searching!!!
P. S. I would prefer buttercream ideas because I haven't worked with fondant yet! ![]()
I did a cake a few months ago with similar colors. I ended up using a bow with silk flowers on the top and a few flowers on the sides. I did dots, swirls, and scrolls on the tiers. I also used some edible pearls. The picture is in my photos...it is the blue/yellow wedding cake.
I think something similar might work for you. I know blues are hard to match. I was lucky and found a ribbon at Michaels that had the colors I needed. ![]()
I think that the shades of blue would look really pretty. What if you iced the bottom cake royal blue, the middle one r.e blue, and the top white. Then on the bottom did white cornelli lace, the middle cake with r.b lace, and the top with r.e blue? Or like traci suggested...if you did white scrolls on the bottom, r.b thin stripes on the middle, and triple dots on top?
Or could you ice the entire cake in r.e blue and then do white cornelli lace all over and then have either r.b flowers or ribbon around the bottom of each tier?
Here are some pics that I found:
