Hey gals,
What am I doing wrong that my fondant has the white powdery residue on it from the cornstarch I roll it on? I made a bow (my first and so far only one) for a baby shower cake, and although everyone loved how it looked, I was not happy w/ the white residue inside (and even some outside) the loops. I have a picture of it on this website under my pics, but I'm not sure how to show it to you. Can anyone help me w/ this?
Thanks in advance,
Audrey in McKinney, TX usaribbon.gif

When my bow loops are dry, I take a soft pastry brush and brush it away ... I have family in McKinney !!! and Plano, and Denton...

That is exactly why I don't use cornstarch...Just use powdered sugar instead. icon_biggrin.gif

I used powdered sugar instead of cornstarch, and I still have the residue that I have to brush away icon_smile.gif

That is the reason I started to use crisco you don't have the residue of the powder after.

I know lots of people brush on some luster dust when the bow is complete, I bet this would hide the residue and look beautiful!

Most, if not all your residue can be brushed off with a soft pastry brush. If using a really dark color on your cake, I'd suggest using a small amount of Crisco instead of cornstarch.

I have never used cornstarch or powdered sugar with the fondant.....crisco works like a charm for me. NO residue, and NO sticking! (just don't use a lot.....a little bit goes a looong way)
