Does anyone know if you can use butter instead of shortening for RBC? I am not a fan of shortening at all. *blech* icon_razz.gif

Hi!!

I don't know if u can use butter in it...i too hate all shortening bc so I wonder also...all the recipes I have found for rolled buttercream are all shortening and are basically the same. I did find 1 that was this:

one part buttercream frosting
two parts powdered sugar
1-2 tbs corn syrup.. add accordingly

mix until you get playdoh like consistency

I am very curious to know how this recipe would work since I use butter in my buttercream. I will try it out after the weekend and let you know.

I've never tried it, but don't see why it wouldn't work...just don't think it would harden enough to stack as well as the shortening versions...but I could be wrong. It's been known to happen. Once or twice. icon_smile.gificon_smile.gif

What about using the butter flavored crisco!? Never tried it just thought I'd put the idea out there.

You CAN do it, but watch out - it is more sticky and very very soft
(meaning much more difficult to work with). It is possible though.
Just don't plan on stacking it as mentioned above.
Very tasty though!

Alright, thanks! I think I'll try it, too. Its not even just the flavor of the Crisco (but thx for the butter Crisco suggestion!) - Just Crisco in general kind of yucks me out. (So yea, my frosting is tasty because its all real butter, but boy oh boy does it get pricey! icon_surprised.gif )
