I want to make a cake for my parents who have recently moved to the beach. I am going down there this weekend for the 4th and want to do something a little different. It's a 2hr. drive, so whatever I make can't be something that must stay refridgerated. I want to do something patriotic for the 4th and have thought about doing a white cake, but do it in 3 layers and color the layers red, white, and blue. My question is what would be a good filling to go in between the layers. I will probably cover the cake in buttercream and do some fondant decorations on it. TIA for the suggestions. icon_biggrin.gif

You can always do white and blue cake layers then do a red filling like strawberry or raspberry preserves.

My favorites are: raspberry jam mixed with bc, chocolate ganache, and almond cream...in no particular order!
