Thanks to all who read my previous thread!!!!! thumbs_up.gificon_rolleyes.gif

Now, since I am doing this cake in fondant and it will be stacked, of course, I will be setting up on-site! I have never done a cake on-site before.

Do I transport each tier separately in their own box and then fully decorate on-site or do I transport the tiers allready decorated and then stack when I get there? I don't want to ruin the design on the tiers by having to pick them up and then stack. I can't also imagine having to decorate the entire thing on-site. That could take hours!!!!!! Not to mention I'll have a limited supply kit with me!!!!!!!

I'm working on my first wedding cake and plan to decorate as much as possible at home, put each tier in a box, and assemble at the reception site and do a small amount of decorating. I'm sure it all depends on your design.

Mine will be buttercream with ribbon around the bottom of each tier and a scroll design on the sides and flowers added. so with the ribbon around the bottom, I don't think I'll have too much of a chance of messing anything up.

I too will be delivering a cake this weekend for a wedding. I will be making the wilton cake "The Glow Endures". I am going to the sides at home, and then when I get there I will do the reverse swirls on the edges.

So tricky!!!!!! I don't know what to do! I just may transport stacked like I did my BIL's wedding cake! I have to go just about 8 miles!!!!!! I'll definately think about it some more before I decide for sure! I just don't want any miss haps and transporting stacked will sure to guarantee a mishap. I don't think I can be lucky twice with transporting a cake already stacked.

FYI from what I've read, most people don't recommend transporting more than 2 layers stacked. I have seen people say they transport 3 layers, but I'd rather be safe than sorry. You can always fix decorations, can't fix a smashed cake lol

If you are going to transfer the cake staked, make sure you use a center dowel..and use the Squirrely method, place the center dowel on the bottom plate first and then layer your cakes accordingly. That way you don't have to worry about the center dowel squishing everything out on you.

You can fully decorate, except for the bottom borders, which you can do on site. Do the flowers on site, too, if that applies. I'm too scared to stack and drive! Be sure to place your cake boxes on a rubber mat in the car, the kind you line your kitchen shelves with.

I live by those rubber mats! I don't move a cake in a car without one! I set one on my turntable too.

I've decided to do the flowers out of royal instead of bc! I can make the royal ones now! Gee, should I ask him for more money for the royal flowers! icon_wink.gif

This cake is going to be very similiar to my cornelli lace swiss dot cake! The bride likes the design! I'm going to vary it up a bit though. I told her that I'll make it similiar without being an exact copy except for the difference in colors. Her purple is darker!!!!

Do ya'll recommend attaching the ribbon to the cake using one of those pins with the colored peal tops? I think I read on here one time that someone attaches their ribbons the same way!
