I am having a terrible time figuring out how to work with lots of small amounts of colors. The waste is driving me crazy and I think my work suffers becaue I can't get past it. Is there an efficent way to pipe a lot of colors when you only need a small amount for each?
The cost is minimal so don't stress over it. Carpenters have leftover scraps of wood, painters have leftover paint in the bottom of the bucket, knitters have odd lengths of yarn at the end of projects, cake decorators have little blobs of icings that goes in the trash. It part of the cost .... the scrap factor.
Save your energy to worry over important stuff .... like getting a level cake and smooth icing! ![]()
make cake balls!
Someone on here said they froze their small amounts of colored icing and stored the fondant so they'd have them for the next time they needed it. I don't know if you should/can do that, but its an idea.
I freeze my leftover frosting all the time. I keep certain colors like, red and black, and really anything left over. It doesn't take long for them to thaw, and I always have a small supply for writing or whatever little thing I need. I use the 1/2 cup tupperware containers, and have never had a problem!
