So I started this dummy cake, and didn't really have a clue what I wanted to do...so here's where I'm at now. It two offset rounds, problem is, I'm not sure why I did this, but I did, the bottom 1 inch of the bottom layer isn't covered with fondant (you can see it in the picture) It looked bad, and so I just trimmed it off. I was thinking I could do two things...cover it with ribbon (that was my thought when I trimmed) or I was thinking of making gumpaste roses and putting them around the bottom. What do you think? Any other suggestions? All are welcome, except those that say I should have covered the entire cake with fondant
! I'm thinking of doing a pearl border on the bottom of the top tier, but any other ideas would be great and much appreciated. TIA!

Well, I love the scrollwork and the color! How about a ribbon with a few accent roses? I love the pearl border at the top tier; ribbon with pearl boarder around the bottom?
Love the design! I think I might do something simple, like the ribbon as you said, I am not sure if the roses might make it look busy. It is very pretty though, did you free hand the scrolls?
i love love those scrolls. Awesome work!
I honestly don't think the ribbon will work because you are going to see it go down where there isn't fondant. Unless you put something behind it to build it up first. I think the flowers would look really pretty. I think daisies would look pretty too.
just to answer some questions...I was thinking of putting a ribbon of fondant behind the real ribbon, so it wouldn't look funny. I just didn't know if ribbon on bottom with pearls on top would look funny.
also thanks for all the kind words on the scrolls...they are all free hand.
Great scroll work! Why don't you just cut a strip of fondant the size of the space you need to cover, then put a wide ribbon over that?
Beautiful cake!!!! You did it all free hand?!?! That's incredible! Either the roses or the ribbon sound like they would be very pretty. I can't wait to see what you do next!
to give you an update...I've put a solid yellow fondant ribbon to cover the styrofoam... now I have to find ribbon. I, no joke have 3 HUGE boxes
of ribbon, but no white ribbon. Can you believe that? Unbelievable... anyway...everyone's suggestions are great...I'll keep reading if anyone has anything interesting, and post as soon as I finish. Thanks again everyone!
Oh...how would it look if I did ribbon and pearls on the bottom, and just pearls on the top without the ribbon?
Maybe a bow topper with the ends of the bow cascading to the bottom cake? Beautifull cake! Flawless!
all right my cake friends...
here's another update, and some pictures to show you progress. I appreciate all the feedback and your compliments...they mean a lot to me. This process is a lot of fun, because usually I just do what I want, and sometimes it doesn't turn out as expected, but this way I get all this great input, and I know it'll be good. Thanks again!
Two pics this time, I went ahead and covered the foam with a strip of yellow fondant. So my thinking is this... just keep the yellow fondant ribbon, put a small dot border above the ribbon to "hide" the seam" and then do white pearls along the bottom? OR attach the ribbon you see in pic #2 and then just stick to doing random roses along the bottom and pearls on top?
TIA... ~Ami
I think I like the idea of leaving off the ribbon and hiding the seam. I'm not liking the white ribbon so much. JMHO.
BTW, I agree with everyone else, those scrolls look great!
I prefer the yellow fondant "ribbon" I like the idea of doing a small border to hide the seem. I would also suggest to make it along the bottom of the "ribbon" just to keep it even, but not to much or it might take away from your beautiful scrolll work.
