I would like to expand my cake/filling combinations a little and am looking for creative ideas that you have found works well. You guys are so creative, what is your favorite combo?

For instance, I get a lot of people asking for marble cake because they want both chocolate and vanilla and I tell them why not alternate layers, and they love the idea! Things like that..different flavoried cakes within layers with different types of filling..

I don't have an idea as I'm still new to all of this but I am interested in getting some ideas from you more seasoned decorators as well.

I'm doing a 4th of July/Birthday cake again this year and I plan on using a white cake with strawberry margarita mousse filling. Hope it tastes a good as it sounds.

I get the best response from my butter pecan cake. It's a plain old DH butter pecan cake mix with the extender (recipe can be found on this site) but I also add one tub of DH coconut pecan frosting into the batter. Then the filling is simply one 8 oz package of cream cheese, 1 c. powdered sugar, and one 6 oz jar of caramel ice cream topping. I always get lots of compliments when I make this one.

I've been thinking abouth trying something similar. I have a chocolate cake in the freezer and I'm thinking I'll make some banana cakes. Then I'll put a layer of choc cake peanut butter filling and top with the banana layer.

Ooh, I just thought of one for my sisters homecoming. She wants lemon so maybe I'll do one layer lemon and the next strawberry. Don't know what to put as the filling. More lemon with a curd maybe. Or more strawberry with a mousse.

I'm doing a baby shower cake in banana but I want to try a praline filling. Do you think banana and praline would go together?

I think it would probably taste like a bananas foster or something. Sounds good to me!
