Help. I have a Barbie cake due on the 9th and I have never done one before. I need to know how the cake is cut up. I am doing it for a friend and I know that she will want to know as do I. Thanks for any info.

I have thought about it carefully, and I think that you should torte the wondermold dollskirt cake, maybe into 4 layers leaving 3 places to put filling or icing. After icing the top of each "layer" put a cardboard circle on top of the middle icing, thereby making two 2 layer mini cakes to cut individually when separated. Then stack the two sections. After torting, decorate as desired. When ready to serve, use a cake server to lift the top 2-layer section off, with the cardboard circle on the bottom...or just serve the top part of the skirt, by cutting down to the cardboard, as you would normally cut a round cake in wedges. The bottom section would, of course, have more servings than the top section. If you are using a real Barbie with legs, you would need to cut a hole in the cardboard for the legs, but with a doll pick, I'm not sure if a hole is necessary.

Does this make sense?

Good Luck! thumbs_up.gif

And I torted the dress (cake) into 3 so that when cut ti could be separated into layers and served. This meant all the little guest got a piece with icing on icon_wink.gif

I really like your idea SugarFrosted!! I think I will do that next time - but here's another option for for you Tanya: I always advise to cut them down the center, and lay them flat - then each 1/2 is easier to cut. I don't torte & fill mine - I just put a lot of frosting on the outside, so everyone gets enough! Also, whenever I use a real Barbie with legs, I have to cut a wider hole through the cake. I like doing it that way, so the little girl can have a whole doll to keep & play with later.

Thanks for all of the info, you guys! I have a million little things going in my mind at the same time! I never even thought of using the boards to seperate into the 2 smaller cakes. I will also be baking a cake for underneath the doll cake. So that will cover the servings incase the birthday girl wants the doll cake for home and family! You know how little girls can get! Thanks again.
