I have never done an edible image but would like to start. Does it have to be a special type of printer or can it be any new printer that has never been used and use special food coloring cartridges and paper? I know absolutely NOTHING about this at all. Any help or info is greatly appreciated. I have a canon printer that came with my last computer that has never even been unpacked and was wondering if you can use it or do i have to buy all new stuff?? Thanks!

As far as I know, all you need is the edible ink. I don;t know if they make them for just any printer though. I haven't researched that at all. When I worked at a supermarket bakery, the printer looked like a canon/hp/epson, but it had no brand logo on it, I just know it had the special ink. I wouldn't know where to find that though. Maybe you could google it? HTH

It doesn't have to be a special printer...just a new inkjet one that's compatible with the edible ink cartridges being made. Which Canon do you have?

Ok. Oops. The new printer isn't a canon it is a compaq ij650. It came with our last computer and since we already had two epson printers up and running we never used it. Can I still use it as well?

The only printers currently compatible with the edible ink cartridges are Epson and Canon printers. You can go to KopyKake.com to get an idea of which printer to get. I recommend getting a Canon. Cartridges are much cheaper, and they are easier to clean if you should get a clog....and YOU WILL get a clog!

No. Edible ink cartridges are being made for certain Canon, Epson and HP printers. If you're looking into buying one, the Canon iP3000, iP1500 or MP130 are great choices. I'd avoid using Epson or HP printers for edible imaging.
