Hi, has anyone used cake stencils? I bought one from Sweet Celebrations planning on using it on crusted buttercream, and gently gliding more buttercream over the stencil to give it a raised look. I've been looking all over for pictures of cakes that have this look.
Any thoughts?

The way you plan on adding the buttercream onto the cake is how I do it. You might want to add a little gel, that way the butter cream will smooth easier and come away with a cleaner lift. You can also color you gel and use it instead of buttercream. The stencils work great on fandant. I have plan on spraying color using a stencil but have yet to try it. Hope this helps.

I have tried stencilling both with buttercream and just gel colors. The one with buttercream was Herk's 65th birthday cake. Used it for the musical notes and letters. The gel colors were done on a piece of fondant using a butterfly stencil and a stencil foam to apply the gel. The gels can be fun because you can do different colors. I still have to try this on a real cake. HTH.
