Does anyone know how to make the fondant drape? I've been searching for instructions, but I can't find them.

I'm actually taking a class on wednesday night on how to make them - cause I have never been able to.....but, in the new Wilton Yearbook they have some pretty good instructions. Do either of you have it yet?

Here's what it says in the book....

Roll out fondant 1/8 in thick on mat dusted with cornstarch. Cut strips following dimensions stated in project instructions. Form pleast in fondant by placing a wooden dowel rod under bottom edge of fondant strip and one on top, next to the first dowel rod. Repeat with more dowel rods to form 3 pleats. Remove dowel rods, gather ends together and brush with water. Position swags on cake and shape pleats with weining tool, attach with a damp brush.

Basically - it's just alternating dowel rods on the top and bottom to help get the swag started.

Hope that helps.

SWEETBAKES,

I didn't notice that you are a newbie...welcome to CC.

Try making the swags wider and use a larger dowel for the folds and then just drape on the cake with someone helping you until you get the hang of it.

I've never tried them but will get a chance to do the swags for a wedding cake that I have coming up.

Good luck and keep us posted thumbs_up.gif

Thanks for the post Stephanie, great link. However, I have never used Tylose so this is going to be an adventure. Your avatar BTW is fabulous! How much have you lost? I've lost 85 pounds since last July! Great job!

This is off the subject but I couldn't help but respond when I saw your weight comment, SamsG. I am struggling with my weight, so how do you stay on the diet track and do cakes too?

Moderation. I allow myself a small bite and then leave it at that. It helps to drink a protein drink and lots of water while I am working so that I feel full all the time. HTH's!

Oh, Sandy I forgot one more thing! Increase the exercise...burn up some calories so the extra piece of cake doesn't go directly to your hips!

If you want swags that go across the cake and not top to bottom, you can buy a mold. I have various size molds from Country Kitchens that work beautifully for fondant.

I think it looks like your avatar is a before and after pic instead of 2 people side by side.
