How do people cut them?? Are they separated, then cut, or just cut while together?

I have only done small stacked cakes - 3 tiers was my largest, but the largest cake was only 8" For those I just cut while stacked.

I think if I was to do any larger tierd ones or larger sizes of even the three tier I would take off the top tiers untill i felt comfortable with it. The main reason would be b/c I would be working over the other tiers and wouldn't want to drop anything.

However I also don't like removing tiers once i have them on their I am afraid I will drop them also. So i guess it is a double edge sword for me eh?

My guess is you will get different responses on this though depending on the comfort level of the person cutting.

I have never seen anyone cut more than three tiers while they were stacked. Most people separate, then cut.

And that's what I do. Separate, then cut.

I cut and then seperate. I think it just depends on what you are comfortable with.
