I am trying to come up with a cupcake based on the Hershey's Take 5 candybar. So far I have a chocolate cupcake, peanut butter filling, caramel buttercream and peanuts on top. I need to work in a pretzel somehow. I was thinking of putting a mini pretzel in the bottom of the cupcake before filling.

Has anyone ever baked pretzels into a cake? Do they remain crunchy? Or do they get soft and mushy?

Thanks!

I have no idea but have you thought about using one to just stick on top with the peanuts?

No idea, but if I had to guess.. I'd say it'd get soft and not stay crunchy. I think putting one ontop would work though.. at least some of it would stay crunchy. But it's true.. there's only one way to find out! icon_biggrin.gif

How about 1/2 chocolate dipping the pretzel and dipping it in chopped peanuts?

Using a pretzel stick and just sticking it in the cupcake like a straw?

Thanks for the quick replies! I was just going to stick one on top as a backup plan, but thought that if it were baked into the cake it would be a nice surprise when you bite into it. I like the idea of a chocolate dipped pretzel rolled in peanuts! I may go with that idea if I have enough time.

I will experiment with baking a pretzel into a couple of the cupcakes and let you guys know the results.

What if you dipped them in chocolate and then baked them in. Maybe the chocoalte would seal out some of the moisture until it baked! icon_smile.gif maybe

Did you try??? How did it turn out? I love this idea. My husband and I love Take 5s. If you still haven't tried it you could put the pretzel on top of the cooked cupcake but under the frosting so it is still kind of hidden. I will have to make this idea into a cake for DH's birthday.

Thanks for the idea.

I've had a PIE with a crushed up pretzel crust (Margarita pie - sounds gross, but it was so dang yummy and I'm not a pie person). Anyway, not sure how it would work with cake, but I would think it would be similar.
