Well I hope someone can PLEASE help me to do my first ever cake tasting event? Is 100 dollars a fair price for all that work? And what size cakes should i make? I was thinking I would do some MINI tiered cakes just to show off my handy work for little cakes. If time some cookie favors also. I also plan to include books for the party to look at. I am going to have a variety of buttercream and fondant cakes as well. My main guestion is how much to charge and what size cakes, but any suggestions anyone submits will be considered greatly!

I guess I'm a little confused, is this for a bridal party or a group of people? If it's for just the wedding party, I don't think I see anyone paying $100. Usually tastings are just pieces of different cake flavors with different fillings/frostings on them and then your portfolio shows off your work. I use cupcakes sliced in two. As far as cookies, I just make little small ones for taste, and again your portfolio does the talking.

But, I'm not sure exactly if this is what you're talking about since you say "event" so I may be completely off base. If it is a bridal party though, I know some people charge between $15-$25 and then the cost of that is "discounted" when they order a cake from you. I don't charge anything for the first tasting. Hope that helps.

Thank you for your Help! Yes, it is for a bridal party. As for the cost, I was going to do it for free as you said, I didnt know people charged for the tastings either but several people that I PM here for advice who are much more experienced told me they charge 100-150 dollars and book parties all the time! OMG! I couldnt believe it either but they said it is TONS of work and if I do it for free I will be SORRY. Hmmm. Now I am really confused! I like your ideas though with cupcakes in half, that is creative but dont you have TONS of work to do and have tons of cake left and/or batter? You really sound like you know what you are doing!

I never charge for bridal cake tastings. It's a free service I offer to the bride and during that time we have a free consult. I don't go to alot of trouble to make the cake. Just one flavor & buttercream filling & frosting. Minimal decorations & borders.

usually the bride and groom, the consultant if they have one, maybe even the bride's mom would want a tasting. That is free, to me. how else do they figure out what flavors they want? That is something you figure into your wedding cake prices (meaning the tasting is "free" but the cost of doing them is part of why you charge what you charge for a wedding cake).

if this is a a tasting party, and the whole bridal party is attending, yeah, I'd charge for that.

oh - and I wouldn't decorate the cakes at all. Plain unfrosted small samples of your cake flavors. Small samples of your frosting flavors in seperate dishes. That way they can mix and match and see what combinations they like best.

Ohhh...a bridal cake tasting party is a great idea. I have not yet recieved a wedding cake order this year and it is the season for wedding cakes. Maybe I should host one.

I have one suggestion, if you are going to charge a fee for the guest to attend then I would at least considered deducting part of that fee from their wedding cake order if they decide to do business with you. That's just my suggestion and my opinion. I'm now thinking of doing the same thing.
