Hi everyone,
I was just wondering what dimension pans are 1/2 sheet cake and a full sheet cake. I've been using 11x15 for a 1/2 sheet cake. I haven't had any requests for a full so I don't have a pan for that. I don't think my 1/2 sheet size is right. Can someone let me know what I should really be using. Thanks!!
Most people use the 12x18 for the half sheet pan and two 12x18s for the whole sheet. There really isn't a standard size, but that's what most people I know of use!
Everyone around here (Missouri) use this
9x13 - 1/4 sheet
11x15 - 1/2 sheet
12x15 - 3/4 sheet
(2) 11x15 - full sheet
I guess another way to look at it is 1 cake mix - 1/4, 2 cake mixes - 1/2, 3 cake mixes - 3/4 and 4 mixes a full sheet.
I think everyone interprets sizes different, it also depends on the area.

Wow! I must toally over fill my pans, then, because I use 4 mixes for my 12 x 18 and I consider that a 1/2 sheet. I like my cakes to be really high, though.
But--if I'm doing a layered cake--I make the layers a bit shorter. I like how that looks better. What a problem child I am. LOL!

How do you get four cake mixes into a 12" x 18" cake pan? I only use two in mine and they bake up plenty high and full! It seems to me that even three would overflow! veejay
I don't know--I just pour them in. I usually fill it about 3/4 of the way up or more. I use a flower nail as a baking core--so they don't crown much. When the baking is done--The very edges of the cake are just a bit over the sides of the pan.
Actually--it's probably more like 3.5 or 3.75 cake mixes. I usually have about 2 cups left over. I can make 4 regular cupcakes with what's left filling the cupcake 1/2 way. (Keeps the kids out of my hair to have something for them.)

The book says 13 and 3/4 cups. That's what I use it's two mixes and a little of the third. Then I bake a little one with the left over mix.
I just finished my first full sheet cake, and I don't really care if I do another one or not, I also used 2 and1 /2 box mixes for my 12x18 pan. Needless to say I ended up making 5 boxes to get 2 12x18 cakes. I read some where that you could use meringue powder to make your cakes rise better is this right? I was really confused as to what a full sheet cake measures, and one of the ladies here on CC told me that she researched the sizes and 2 12x18 was a full sheet and that was good enough for me.
That's what I use for my full sheet cakes too. They are such a pain. It's hard to handle a cake that big.
A Full sheet cake is 16x24x2 that is the bakery size. hope this helps
Yes they are a pain, I star tiped both cakes and informed the lady I am doing this for that she would have two cakes and could just put them side by side, I guess she already asumed this and said that would be okay. Silly me didn't know until I went to my local cake supply store today that they made a board and box that would acommadiate this size cake.
Wow - I'm surprised by the Missouri sizes, but not by the bakery sizes. Bakeries & grocery stores use smaller sizes as "full" sheets - that helps their profits. A true full sheet is 18x24. That is two 12x18s put together. That also takes 6 mixes. A 12x18 is a 1/2 sheet - takes 3 mixes. Hope this helps.
