I wanted to know if people actually eat these flowers. It takes time to make them and if you are making alot it would be very upsetting if people dont eat them and they go in the garbage. I really dont like them and honestly if i was given cake with it i would take them off. I am making some that i learned from course 3 for practice and was planning on putting them on a cake to practice placement but isnt it usually done on elegant cakes and also i dont want to put them on a cake and give it to someone who will just throw them out. is that weird?

so anyway the question is do people eat these?

Not many people that I know of will eat them as they are so hard. But a few people like to munch on them... I think they usually go into the garbage which is a shame considering that it takes so much to make them.

The kids in attendance at the occasion probably would but adults usually don't.

thats very disappointing because they are pretty, i wish there was a way to make flowers that would actually get eaten. i havent done fondant or gumpaste yet, does that get as hard as royal?

I can ASSURE you these get eaten! While taking my course 2 class, we was required to make like 60 of the apple blossoms, pansys, etc. for the last class. I spent 2 whole evenings making these. On Monday, I decided I needed to do inventory of what I had, and what all more I needed, well, come to my surprise, when I checked the box, all the wax paper squares were there, but NO FLOWERS! OMG...I about DIED! My 17 yr old son came home from school, and I asked him if he was in my flowers. His response was "but they are GOOOD!!!" I said to him, guess what you get to learn this week?!?! Needless to say, he has NEVER touched another flower of mine. So yes...they do get eaten.

Charb31, that is TOO FUNNY! I can just see him diving into those flowers then having to make you some more. Kids do the darnest things, even when they get big!

I have a friend who just makes a bee line to the royal icing flowers whenever I make a cake. All of the kids eat them also so they don't get wasted. Sugar high, I'm sure!

Charb31 that is so funny. my 2 1/2 year old eats maybe 1/2 a rose before he gives up because its too hard for him to bite. i'm sure kids eat them but have you seen the cakes with like 800 apple blossoms?? Its beautiful but alot of work and it would be a shame if they dont get eaten. I just think that if i give the cake to like someone who doesnt have kids then it wont get eaten. but i like making them and they are soo pretty.

Actually brighbrats, that is EXACTLY what he said I could say! His words were " well you could tell your teacher that your homework was eaten". And he burst out laughing, needless to say, I was NOT amused! But I got over it ok. He is my world and I his, sooo....he learned a lesson, and that's all that mattered to me in the end. icon_smile.gif
