So I made a batch of MMF last night to cover a cake. Made it, let is cool down for an hour. It was still warm when I started. It was super sticky. I used a lot of cornstarch.
Was it sticky because it was still warm????
Then I colored a bit, and well that was interesting. It took a long time to get the color combined, and I didn't get the color I wanted. Does MMF take a lot of color to make it bold????
Then, one more. As "glue" a used piping gel, worked great but almost too well. I was trying to repair a a hanging piece and it got soft/wet and broke off. Is their anything else I should use???? Water????
Thanks for your help, I'm going to play around more with the leftovers.

If the MMF was too sticky, you can always add a little more confectioner's sugar to it and that will help. Coloring MMF is easier if you do it when your marshmallows are melted and before you add the confectioner's sugar. The problem w/this is the entire batch will be one color. Otherwise, yes, it's hard to get very bold, vivid colors with fondants... and last, I always use water to adhere the fondant accents to my cakes, but I'd suppose piping gel would work also. Once stuck, it sticks!! It's hard to remove or move it once you've adhered it to your cake .. hope this helps!
If its sticky you dont have enough sugar added to the batch... and like ntertayneme stated.. water will work easier for attaching accents...
as far as coloring, unless you are coloring the entire batch..add the color when the dough is still warm and easy to knead... if you've let it sit, pop it in the microwave to loosen it up and add the color then...it wont kill your hands and forearms..

I did this too (add color to melted marshmallows) for my hibiscus cake.. I ended up splitting up the one batch and did 1/2 at a time (1# PS to 8 oz marshmallows) and coloring each a different color... I just keep what was not used well covered and wrapped and can use it at a later time. MMF does keep for a while.
Not to be the wet towel at the party, but I tried adding color when my marshmallow's were melted but before i added the powdered sugar and it was a TOTAL DISASTER!! it was stringy and just...weird. Any thoughts on why that would be? Otherwise here's a warning for ya manatee.
Never had that happen to me Katydidz. I use Americolor and I just stir it into the melted marshmallows then I add the confectioner's sugar after that.
