I would not deliver a cake that far for only 40 people. I would have probably met her half way and only charged her half price for delivery. You still have to drive back so we are talking 160 miles total.

Not me!

I made the mistake of delivering 40 miles away (one way) and now they (people from that party) think that I will deliver cakes to them so when they call and I tell them they will have to pick up they seem a little put out.........

I am not interested in the delivery end of this business..... The roads here are horrible!!!!

Not for a cake that cost less than $1000, and then, I would still charge 40 cents per mile.

No, I probably would not unless I just happened to be going that way. If I make a cake for someone that far away, I tell them I will meet them half way, or they can come get it. Think about it...besides wedding cakes, when you order a cake from a bakery or grocery store, they don't deliver it to you.

That's a great point. Grocery stores never deliver cakes that small.

I would figure up the actually cost of fuel and your time to deliver. Then tell them this is the delivery charge. If they don't want to pay it then offer to meet them half way for half cost (or whatever you feel comfortable with) or they can come pick it up.

If they were goint to pay me for fuel and my time I would deliver it.

I agree that I would deliver it only if they were going to make it worth my while. Figure in not only the miles, but the time. You are going to be driving for what, three hours? That's a big consideration.
