Thanks for all the help on the dowel question. Here is my first attempt. I sent it off with my DH to his office. But I didn't know how to tell him to cut it as I have not done one before. I thought you take the top layer off first but who knows what they will do with it. Hopefully eat it and like it. Again, thanks for all the tips.

Looks great & is very straight!!! When you start cutting, you start at the top tier, then when that one is done, you remove the dowels & cut the bottom tier.

How many dowels did you use? Use the wooden ones?

You all are too wonderful! I used lollypop sticks (the firm paper ones) and cut them to size. There were 4 of them. My DH just called and said it was almost all gone. Whew!
