I have a question... I have never worked with MMF, but it looks like it is beautiful, so I want to give it a try. My question is, does it taste good? I make a wonderful buttercream, and I am constantly getting comments on how good it is... I really want to try to take my cake decorating to new levels.. so I want to try MMF, but I don't want it to take away from the cake, and I don't want to tell people they have to peel it away to eat the cake. What are your thoughts?
hiya kbenz and welcome to cake central.
You can flavor the marshmallow fondant any flavor that you want. Lorann's oils work especially well for this. I made a chocolate cake and flavored the fondant with peppermint. Tasted like a york peppermint patty. One of the reasons that peeps don't like to eat a lot of fondant isn't that it tastes bad it's just very, very sweet. After all it is mostly sugar with a little bit of binder brought in with the marshmallows
I'm also new at MMF. I tried it for the first time and it was easy and it did taste good. My son liked it and enjoyed playing with the left overs. I made sure that I had a good layer of BC on the cake. Then used MMF accents on top. Not everyone will enjoy it because, of course, we all have our own likes and dislikes. But overall, it turned out good. I didn't have any complaints, which was important to me.
Good Luck!! ![]()
I think MMF is really easy to work with and like it much better than other fondants I've used in the past... the great part about it is you can pop it back into the microwave for just a few seconds and it'll soften right up which makes it really easy to work with .. the downfall of fondant is that most people do not like the chewy factor with it... icings are soft and have that "melt in your mouth" texture ... fondant is chewy and even though MMF has a great taste, some people just can't get around the chewy part ...
and by the way, chaptlps, I love the idea of peppermint w/the chocolate!! another good thing about MMF, you can flavor it with just about any kind of flavoring out there ![]()
