Anyone Have Wilton Castle Kit??

What do you think of it. I just purchased the Wilton Caslte Kit and had some problems, but still love it. I just posted a pink castle cake which I used the parts of the kit. I had a major problem with the top, during delivery it fell apart. I took it back home and repaired, then delivered and assembled the towers there. Have you had any problems? Towers are very top heavy, but the rest of the kit is really cute. I got alot of nice comments.
I just saw the kit in Michael's this week and wondered if it made the castle cake experience easier. I'll be making my niece one in a couple of months and I am considering it, thanks for the feedback. Your cake is very pretty, I really like it!
I haven't done one yet - but have an order for June. I do have the kit - had to order off ebay! But got it cheaper than the one place I'd originally looked.
Any tips for me? LOL
I tried to look at your pics but they won't load - I'll try again in the morning.
I also have the kit I did the medevil (sp) castle on the back of the box. I worked pretty good for me but I also had problems with the top tower. I ended up taking it off because it didn't seem very sturdy. I was afraid it was going to fall over and take the top of the cake with it. Thinking of drilling a hole in the bottom and somehow attaching a support just not sure how yet. I also attaced everything with melted chocolate i think next time i will use royal.
Yea i saw the castle kit today and honestly I just kind of thought it was cute. I saw an actual cake made with the kit, it was a cute cake for sure, however she used a ten inch on the bottom of the cake, and realized after putting it together she should have made it bigger, because when she put in the spires, it cracked the sides of her icing. I kind of thought it was cute, in a generic wow that makes it less creative kind of way. But, well i think if i was in a huge hurry .. I'd do it. I mean really the spires are easy to make out of paper towel rolls, and you're already using fondant to cover part of them so why not just make the windows and doors out of that.. or icing.. or a drop door drawbridge out of a graham cracker. And using ice cream cones for the tops of the towers... anyway i just think it would be as easy and less expensive to go other routes. I'd rather spend my money on air brushing stuff or edible printer stuff, I mean things I think i'd use all the time. I'd be worried i'd use the kit and not get part of it back or something.. and end up losing money that way
Oh well

I was also thinking of drilling a hole in the bottom for a dowel to go through or even cutting the bottom off to make it hollow. All but the big ones for the side. I didn't use the real big ones, but did put two med. in the bottom cake and icing on the side to stick to the cake and they too fell. It definately is not ment for any traveling. Set up there only. I do like it though, because I do have some customers that don't want to spend the extra money on fondant.
I just bought it as well. I haven't used it but it looked cute and didn't cost very much at all so I figured why not. I don't think that it is at all a less creative way to go. You're still designing and decorating the cake with your own two hands. Anything to make the process a little easier is great for a busy baker. If and when I use it I will most likely require a deposit for the parts in order to ensure return of the pieces (that's always the tricky part) I'm sure it's something that I'll fool around with first before using for a customer. Have fun!
Just wondered how you all were liking your sets.
I ended up only using the door and a couple windows out of mine. I needed to see it all together - so I wanted to assemble then transport and I *hated* that there's no good way to support the towers - I mean how hard would it be to put a little hole in the bottom?
I ended up doing ice cream cones - so that I could poke a skewer through. I'm disappointed in the set. ![]()
I HAVE ONE BUT DID NOT USE IT. I'M THINKING OF RETURNING IT. I THINK IT LOOKS CHEAP. I ALSO DON'T LIKE IT NOT BEING EDIBLE. I MEAN ONCE YOU REALLY LOOK AT IT, IT'S JUST A TIERED CAKE WITH THIS PLASTIC CASTLE ON TOP. I BOUGHT ONE JUST IN CASE, BECAUSE I HAVE TO MAKE A CASTLE CAKE IN NOVEMBER AND GRABBED IT IN CASE THEY GOT RID OF IT OR OUT OR STOCK, BUT I'M NOT REAL HAPPY WITH IT. FOR GETTING IT BACK, JUST ADD $ TO THE PRICE OF THE CAKE FOR THE CASTLE KIT SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT GETTING IT BACK.
