This may be an old question, but what would you charge for this? I ended up giving to my son's kindergarten teacher... believe me, she has more than worked it off in trade... even with her salary...but just wanted to get an idea of what other people think it is worth.
Choc. fudge cake, bc, mmf

I don't sell cakes, so no help with pricing but...I know what you mean when you say "believe me, she has more than worked it off in trade... even with her salary"=) It was my daughter's first year in preschool, and being an only child, there was a bit of a power struggle of who was the one running the class and choosing what to do=( Her teacher worked with her thru the year, and has gotten her to realize that the teacher is the boss=) All done in kindness and understanding for my daughter. What amazing teachers we have out there and what would we do without you guys!! But here is your BUMP for you question=) Jen

In order to help I need a little more information. I can't go just off of looks. I charge per serving and the following also change my price.

What sizes are these?
Is there any filling?
Did you have pans this shape or carve them?

Chefcindy, how large is this cake? It is very nice and certainly worthy of a good market price! You were more than kind to have given this to the teacher and I know she was thrilled with the beauty of the cake as well as the fact you gave it to her for all she has done. Awesome!! icon_smile.gif

My starting price for this cake would be $3.50 per serving. If it is filled with something other than BC I would add another $ .25 per serving.

Sorry.. I wasn't much help. There is no filling, I didn't want them to start sliding. bottom is 10 inch with about 2 inches off one side, middle is 8 inch with the side trimmed. each are just a single 2 inch layer. top is a pampered chef bowl. it is frosted in bc and covered in mmf (books) and the top is mmf road & mickey head with bc grass.
I would think it would serve 30 if you just took the layers... and the top would be about 10 or so more... that one is hard to cut... so I never can tell. Thanks for your help!!

My price would be 125.00 and no less. Not sure what your market will bare but I am finding no trouble in people paying good money for a special cake. DON"T cut yourself short! icon_smile.gif

chefcindy, i too don't know how to price a cake, i'm too new and am only baking for the family so far, but i know alot of work when i see it. i don't know how much to ask for a cake like that, but i'd take the advice of the experienced bakers at cc and go from there. and it is a very nice cake, i havn't tried anything nearly as complicated yet! you did good!!! linda icon_biggrin.gif

I would probably try and put it in Alice's Cake Matrix. I have yet to put a cake into it but I did download it. I heard she covered everything for how to price a cake. I can't find the thread at the moment, but i will try.

I'll tell Alice to put it in her matrix... (she's my neighbor around the corner) She keeps sending it to me, but it doesn't make sense to me!
I love her anyway... icon_eek.gif Some day I may understand it... but for now my little mind can't get around it!!! icon_redface.gif She will be glad to know that it has been reccommended though!!! thumbs_up.gif

ChefCindy who are we kidding, not only could you not imagine charging $125 for your talent you would price it way below minimum wage icon_smile.gif You are soooooo talented, you DESERVE a price that matches your talent.

Your costs are approximately $16, how long did it take you to make the cake? How much do you want per hour? Rough numbers in my matrix put the cake at $100. It is a totally custom cake remember and not a sheetcake from Costco!!!!!!!!!!

Badeerah I am honored that you thought to use my matrix, I sometimes wonder what I like more, making cake or making cake to get ideas to put into my matrix. I'm such a computer nerd icon_smile.gif

Your cake is very nice, it looks like it took a lot of time and energy to create it. I could charge $3 per slice, extra for fondant, filling, carving etc.

Thanks, everyone! The bottom line is that my son's teacher LOVED the cake... it was yummy and looked great (according to her) It was a nice way to honor all she has done for us this year. We prayed dilligently that our son would have a teacher who saw his heart and could somehow curb his behavior, and our prayers were answered with her. I know I don't charge what I should for cakes, but I just love doing them and if it can make someone I care about happy (chocolate ALWAYS works for me!! ) then it is worth it. Now... for people I don't know... that is another story!!! I'll take money from them!! icon_wink.gif
