I decided that for my cousins graduation from dental hygeine I would make her the coolest 3-D tooth cake. I spent alot of time planning and double checking that I had all the supplies I needed. My plan was a 4 layer high carved tooth wearing a graduation cap.

I also though since this is my first 3-d cake that I should have some sort of back up plan. So for that I sculpted a tooth out of stryofoam and covered it in fondant that I would put on a 8 inch & 10 inch tiered cake, just in case.

SO, yesterday I started baking at 9 am, cooled & stacked and in the freezer by 2. (I have 2 small children that like to distract me when ever I have a big project) Started carving after dinner, frosted, and to where I stepped back and thought "WOW I DID IT!"... So I went to bed thinking WOOHOO, I didn't need that back up plan. That's whan it happened! Sometime over the night, it COLLAPSED!
I went in at 7:30 am to find the most horrifying tooth "cavity". The party is at 1! Back up plan here I come....

Here's a few pics for you to enjoy.

Oh my! I'm so sorry this happened to you. I would probably scream if this happened to me. I wonder why it fell apart. I'm looking at the way you stacked the cake. Maybe it was because you layers are done vertically rather than horizontally? Ohhh this really sucks!!!

Your poor tooth!!! I'm so sorry this happened! But at least you had a back-up plan. I can't tell you how many times I have painted myself into a corner with a project because I had no back up for it!

The end result looked great, though! Good job!

They weren't vertical, that's just how they ended up icon_cry.gif ... My guess is that the carving in between the "roots" and the divit at the top was just too much stress for it... It broke in 4 pieces, right where I carved the top! OH WELL, live and learn, I just wish it was a little easier to take!

the ''crowning'' touch is the final cake. i like it better.
