I have never used a heating core, and have just seen what one looks like. How do you use it exactly? It looks as if there will be a hole in the cake when you take it out - is that right? Or do you fill the core aswell and 'plug' the hole back up?

Is there anything else that you can use that has as good effect?

Thanks!

I can't answer your questions about the heating core as I have never used one. But you can use flower nails, placed upside down in your cake pans. Cakes cook evenly with them. I grease mine before placing in the pans. If it's a big pan, I use more than one.
