can i use olive oil instead of veg. oil in a chocolate cake mix. ran out of veg oil? I want to make a cupcake bouqet for a sick friend. But concerned the olive oil might leave a weird taste. I do have some applesauce, maybe I should just sub that. But how much do you use for 1/2 c. veg oil. thanks

I use applesauce in place of oil. I just add the same amount of applesauce as oil. I do that in everything that I bake, bread, muffins, pancakes, waffles....everything. Once I made the mistake of using berry flavored applesauce (as it was the only kind I had), and it didn't turn out very good. So make sure you have regular old applesauce.
