My third grade class read Charlotte's Web, and for an "end of the year" bash we are having a County Fair. I am making cupcakes for a cake walk and I put almond extract in the icing. Do I need to worry about children with nut allergies eating them? Thanks for helping me out here, wouldn't want to hurt any of my kiddies.

I don't know about the nut problems with extract but unless your kitchen is nut free or you took precautions I don't know if I'd want kids with nut allergies eating the cupcakes. I don't know the steps to properly sanitizing for nuts. Some kids are so sensitive that the slightest trace can trigger a reaction, I know that I wouldn't feed a nut sensitive kid from my kitchen.

I think you will be fine. I have a feeling any mom with a nut-sensitive child would never let him eat a cupcake at a cake walk unless she made it. (spoken as a mom who thought her son was peanut allergic, He is not praise God)

Unless you used 'artificial' almond flavouring (a chemical fake), then yes, you should be worried - pure almond extract comes from almonds.

Thanks everyone. We all know who has allergies, so I'll tell all the teachers to make sure none of those kids get my cupcakes.
