I am just wondering how this taste? I have read about it and decided to pick some up while I was at Hobby Lobby last night. I debated back and forth (because of taste) and figured for less than $2 I would go ahead and buy it since I was already there and I am about 40 minutes from there otherwise.

Black is so hard to make at times and I figured if I need black fast I have it, but I don't want it to taste bad on a cake either. If you do use it, do you use it directly from the tube or put it in your own bag? I thought if the flavor was too bad maybe I could squeeze some out and add flavoring to it, then proceed as usual with my bags.

It doesn't taste great. It's OK if used along with BC. The flavor of BC melds and makes it better. However, I have only used it for outlining, not for covering large areas. Squeeze a tad out and taste it.

Thank you for your responses. The main thing I need black for now is a graduation cap. The cap will be frosting and otherwise the black would be used for small detail on the cake.

I have used the Wilton Black. Like you said, getting a good color on black can be such a hassle. You can use it directly out of the tube (a coupling will screw on the tube) or you can put it in your own bag, whichever you prefer. The taste isn't great, but usually you don't use a lot of black anyway. If you are going to use a lot, it would probably be better to make your own. If you use Juniper Green to start with, then add the black you can get a better color.

The taste is not that great, I keep it handy for small details. I never had to use a lot of it.
