I made a batch of Rhondas' MMF tonight and made it many times before with no problem! Well low and behold my DH purchased the marshamallows for me this time, and purchased Wal Mart's brand. I didn't think much of it... Marshmallows, even the store brand should still work ok! WRONG! It was the worst crap of MMF I have ever had. The Fondant swelled! No matter how many times I kneaded and added Crisco, and water, it would eventually turn "puffy again" So beware don't go the cheap route on Wal Mart's brand!

I don't know about the WalMart brand--I refuse to shop there. However, the Safeway/Vons marshmallows are perfectly fine and pose no issues when making MMF (I've been using it the past several weeks, it has been nasty humid here several days and I've still been fine)

I have just started making and using MMF from this site's recipe (LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!). Being the cheapie that I am, I have only purchased and used the generic Wal-Mart brand for my fondant. I have not had any problems at all! But maybe that's because I have nothing to compare it with? Maybe I'll try another brand next time...

I Starbucks Addict... (LOL, love the name) I have a Safeway near me and I will definitely try that brand. I live in a humid place too, so this may be great for me. Thanks for the tip.

Out of curiosity, can you flip over the package and see where the WalMart brand ones are made? I guess maybe we can compare the ingredient list as well to see the differences, since generics are usually made in the same factories as name brand with very similar, if not identical, recipes.

The only thing I have noticed is because of the humidity, my MMF is a little more sticky than normal so I'm having to add more confectioners than usual (I go 1 1/2 confectioners, 1 cup mm, 1 Tbsp with the microwave and hand mix/knead).

The Safeway ones are on sale through Tuesday for $1.50 per 16 ounce bag icon_smile.gif They're on sale frequently, and $0.50 savings per bag makes me want to stay with the generic!

I love eggnog lattes--so unfair they're only offered for about 12 weeks of the year!!!!!!!!!!

Well, after seeing the post, I'll remake another batch with the Wal Mart brand and see how it comes out. Maybe it just a bad bag or something.

THanks you guys

I am a cheapy also and only use the walmart brand so I don't know any different but my mmf always seems to be fine. Maybe sometime I should be adventerous and purchase the more expensive brand to see if works any better.
