i've been working on this cake for three days. it's supposed to be a yankees interlocking ny symbol on a pinstriped background. well, i should have known it was doomed from the start when i first tried to make the fbct and it wouldn't come off. then i made it again and when i went to take it off the paper, it broke. i decided to try to put it on the cake and this is what happened!!! icon_cry.gif

i scraped the mess off, refrosted the cake and started making the fbct again. this is my second batch of bc and i don't think i have enough to pipe borders with. the cake is due tomorrow, so i will probably be up all night with it. it's already almost 11pm, and i still have to make two baseballs. *sigh*

It will take more icing, but you can try making the whole FBCT a regular shape, like square or circle, with the NY in blue and the rest the same as the icing on the cake. It's really the best way to keep a design like that from breaking apart.

Good luck.

you could piece it together then pipe over with frosting.I messed up a fbct last week,it split on me and some colors smeared,so i re-piped withfrosting over it and no body but moi knew the difference.good luck

thanks everyone! i was fairly pleased with how it came out. the other other problem i had was when i was bringing the baseballs to my aunt's house, one of them rolled off its board and right over my cousin's name, so i had to bring some frosting over and rewrite his name after setting the ball back on its board.

everyone made such nice comments on it, and that helped me feel better! thanks again!

Wow beautiful save! THat looks fantastic.
Also great save on having extra icing to fix the ball.
I have only done one paid cake so far, but lots of bday/occasion cakes for nieces/nephews/family, and so I always bring my 'tools' with me in the quite likely instance some mishap occurs in transit lol.
God you know how many times I've wished for an allnight Walmart store here? Those times when you have to redo a batch at 3am and have no more icing sugar or butter or what not? LOL
