I saw all the wonderful ones everyone on here did lately and I'm inspired to make one for MIL tomorrow as a late Mother's Day gift. I don't have time to get to the store, though. Is it possible to do it without the foam ball? Anything I could substitute? How do you stick the cupcakes on...really long toothpicks?

Don't know if you've seen the Cupcake Bouquet article:

You could probably get by with a florist's frog, or making your own with criss-crossed florist's tape on a taller container but then you'd need bamboo skewers or something similar to hold the cupcakes - which would also require a trip to the store.

Well, I do have dowels...and lolipop/cookie sticks. I have a hardware store right in town...think they would have the styrofoam? I just don't have the time to run to Walmart (30min away).

Make a ball of fondant, and stick the lolly sticks into the ball. Blessings, Shawn <><

I think your problem will be trying to keep the sticks from poking all the way thru the cupcakes, letting them slide down the stick. When you put them in styrofoam, you only leave an inch or so of the stick on top of the foam. I don't see how you could keep the sticks from sticking 6in out of the top.

Well, that was just something off the top of my head...

But it would be possible to skewer the cupcakes without impaling them if you made a bottom support for them and taped that to the skewer about an inch from the top.

I would recommend skewering thin cardboard circles (cut from paperplates) twisted at the base and secured with tape. (This would mimic the flower/stem attachment on real flowers.)

Think the toothpicks and styrofoam ball would be easier, but you work with what you've got. icon_smile.gif
