Do you use the same consistancy of royal icing on your dummie as you do on your cookies ? I am partial to Antonia's recipe, and I would like to use it to frost my dummy, but I'm not sure if the consistancy is right. Do you add/ cut down on the liquid at all or am I just being paranoid ?

TIA

Hi,

I have used wilton's royal icing recipe on a dummie. Today, 5 years later, the dummie continues to hold the royal icing.

I am attempting to use wilton royal icing on a cake dummy but am having difficulty getting a smooth finish as it wants to firm up before I can get it smooth! I'm about ready to toss it!! Can anyone help me out??

For the basic coat on cake dummies, I use spackling paste from the hardware store. You can color it, or leave it white.

Instead of a royal which is giving me fits trying to smooth it, could I use a Faux Fondant Buttercream? Will it "spoil" or last the month or so that I need it to look good? I am entering a contest and want to get these cakes done in advance so that I can concentrate on other items closer to contest date.
