A friend wants a curious george cake with whipped topping. But he wants Curious George piped on top of the cake (I will probably trace it on with piping gel). Can I do the whole cake in whipped topping with George in buttercream or can I do George in whipped topping? I'm not sure how it would taste mixing both icings and I don't know how well the whipped topping would pipe on the cake! Help!
I did a few character cakes and regular cakes with whipped topping. But to make it a bit stabilized to work with, I put icing sugar into it. You would have to trouble shoot to see how much you would want to use. I am not sure what kind of oil based whipped topping they have in the US. In Alberta, Canada, we have Nutriwhip, which has to be mixed first like whipped cream. This product does not have to be kept frozen either like cool whip. Anyway, it worked great for me on a few cakes and was light. It took the color well as well. I have attached a cake I did similar to what you seem to have in mind.
. I didn't know about piping gel when I made it, so I just traced it, but the topping came off. Disaster at first, but it came out well in the end.
