I just got done with this baby shower cake for tomorrow for a friend. It's a 10" on the bottom with the 3D bear on top and some fondant accents (the block is fondant along with the letters)... I only charged her $30... when I quoted her the price it was based on just making the bear ontop of the cake with no fondant or anything... which is still kinda cheap but oh well... this is the 2nd cake she got from me and I'm sure she'll get more. I think I would've charged $60 for it though considering we're also delivering it... how much would you charge?

I wouldn't charge a penny less than $100. In my area that's what a cake like this would go for.

For just the bear without fondant extras or anything I wouldn't have done it for less than $35-40. That's not counting the round, it being tiered or delivered. I live in a rural area.

I would have charged more than $30 maybe $50 plus a small delivery fee.
You did a great job by the way thumbs_up.gif

I just did a baby shower cake today and I charged $70, they are comparable in size. I think you totally undercharged!!!! Don't under estimate your talent!

thanks everyone, well, we delivered it and i got a $10 tip so that was pretty close to what i would have charged figuring in the 15% discount i give to repeat customers. (it would have been $45 with my new price list) so yay, i'm happy!

IMHO - at $30 you aren't even beginning to recover your costs for time and materials

First to answer your question, Yes i agree with everyone else already.

But just a reminder. No matter what you quoted in the first place, if the customer comes back and changes the design, this doesn't mean it has to be for the original quote, if the design changes so does the price.

Yes, I would have changed the price if she decided she wanted something like I ended up with but that was completely my decision to add in the pillars & block so I didn't charge extra. Thanks everyone!

I don't think $70 - $80 would have been unreasonable. Think about how many hours that took! You did a great job icon_smile.gif
