Hi! I am new Cake Central, and I am so thankful I found you. I have been dabbling in decorating cakes for years and am getting ready to make a birthday cake for my son who will be 2. I borrowed an 11 x 15 cake pan and would love some suggestions regarding how long and at what temp you bake in it. The lady I borrowed it from puts damp terry cloth strips around the outside of the pan and bakes it at 300 degrees. Is this pretty standard or do ya'll have other ways you prefer to bake one of these.
This will be a barnyard John Deere cake....I am so excited! But I don't want a half burnt, half gooey cake. Can anyone help?
Welcome to CC! you'll love it here!
When I bake an 11x15, I bake it at 325, and put one of my flower nails upside down in the center of the pan. It works like a heating core. I set my timer for 45mins, and then check it every few minutes til it's done.
(usually 45-50 mins)
Sherry
I'm not a pro like a lot of people on here, but I have baked a bunch of 11x15 cakes! And I do just what Sherry does..bake at 325 and set my timer for 45 min. I used flower nails up until this last weekend when I forgot and it turned out fine..so I didn't use one for the other 3 I was baking and they all were perfect.
I use 2 cake mixes for each pan...and for each cake mix I add a box of pudding to it...and I sub. milk for the water..and i add a yolk to my white cake mix as well. And usually I add a little more milk that what they call for because the pudding makes it pretty thick.
I really hope this helps you. I am just starting out as well and have learned a ton from this site and everyone on here! Good luck! Let us know how it turns out!-Alison
